Amongst other projects, The long now foundation is building a clock that should work for the next 10’000 years.
What these people are doing is really fascinating. All our culture is getting so short-sighted that we seem to forget that there will (should) be a lot happening after us.
This scale shift makes most of our daily concerns look very different. They are important for our current lives but become childish when we take some distance. Some aspects of our lives (ecology, massive warfare) will mater for the future of our children and for the civilizations to come but our day to day struggle for fame, money and the latest toy becomes less evident.
