Körper / Geist
This project is a research on the encounter with people as a separate body and mind. People enter a space with either the performer’s body or his head.
This performance opened many questions regarding mediatization (what was happening in the two spaces was shown on the gallery’s wall) and visibility (of the actions, of the body, of the video of the performance).
Having lived this work from the inside, my memory of the event is radically different from what I see here. I remember being a little nervous at first, but ultimately feeling cold and my senses inhibited. Watching the video, I see an abandoned body and genitals taking over the whole image.
I am now wondering if the temperature was really too cold. If the fact that I didn’t really feel most of what happened is due to some kind of consciousness retreat for protection. But I doubt this is the full story. I think I didn’t really feel or remember what the people did with my body because these events were not inscribed in a sequence of events which my mind could glue together as a tale. Something like “I am going to the masseur, I see the masseur, I feel the hands”.
I believe that I would need a lot of exercising to reach a point where body feelings would build up as tales of their own.
